New song release! “LONELY ABALONE”
I’m excited to announce the release of my new song, “Lonely Abalone”. You can find it on
CD Baby, iTunes, Amazon, and more. “Lonely Abalone” is bluesy tribute to a marine creature once so popular in California coastal cuisine, it was eaten to near extinction. When a plant or animal species, like the abalone, is over harvested faster than it can reproduce, threatening its population, that’s called “overexploitation” — a word I use in my song.
Known for its beautiful iridescent shell, there were once millions of abalone up and down the California coast— and around the world. But by the 1990s, the abalone population had plummeted toward certain extiction—due overexploitation and environmental factors. I first learned about the abalone’s plight from marine biologist friend Nancy Caruso, founder of Get Inspired’s Green Abalone Restoration Project. After an in-depth discussion with Nancy, during which I learned lots of cool things about abalone, I decided that this special mollusk— with an important role in the coastal ecosystem— was worthy of a song.
I hope that “Lonely Abalone” will inspire listeners to support abalone restoration and the restoration of the local native species near you. Now have a listen!
