Birdsong meets a Humpback Whale!
Dear Friends,
I had the privilege of encountering this beautiful humpback whale in Moorea, French Polynesia in September 2018. Words fall short in describing what it was like to be in the ocean with this magnificent creature. This whale is one of a population of southern hemisphere humpbacks who migrate each year from their feeding grounds in the Antarctic to their winter breeding grounds in French Polynesia. I hope this short video inspires a sense of wonder and awe, slow deep breaths, and a desire to protect our oceans—in all who watch it!
Humpback Whales are among the world’s giant baleen whales. and they are known for their acrobatics and singing. You can hear humpback whales singing in my kids’ song, “Humpback Whale Song” from our CD “EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED and Other Animal Songs for Kids”. You can also learn more about these amazing creatures by reading “The Kids’ Times: Humpback Whales” by NOAA. There is still so much we are learning about humpback whales and I look forward to meeting them again someday.
Your Whale-Loving Friend,
Birdsong
